Please post, forward, and distribute. Thanks.

A made in Hamilton art project.

SUITCASE ART GALLERIES are a series of mobile art spaces that consist of vintage, found, and recycled suitcases, which will tour the city of Hamilton. This unique initiative promotes local artists to a local public, and provides Hamilton with an alternative space for art and creativity.

We would love to see your artwork in our suitcases, which will seek to visit art galleries, museums, libraries, parks, community-centres, and other locations. Perhaps even some door-to-door house calls.

28% of Hamilton's citizens work outside the city boundaries (2003 statistic). The connotation of a suitcase gestures travel, yet SUITCASE ART GALLERIES attempts to subvert the action of leaving, and instead travels within Hamilton, recognizing a need to help promote the local arts community to its own city. A localized travel.

All art forms are encouraged, including performance pieces, installation art, fashion design, t-shirts, sound art, painting, printmaking, drawing, craft, sculpture, and anything else you could possibly think of.

Currently, there are six different suitcases that we have acquired, of various shapes and sizes. Alternatively, you can also use your own suitcase, and can join our tour (don't worry, we'll take care of it).

Please send us your...

1. Resume, CV
2. Artist statement of proposed artwork
3. Three to five examples of your artistic practice
4. Brief description of your relationship with the city of Hamilton

For more info contact: ddjvartprojects@gmail.com
Email us if you want to know some of the different suitcases' interior dimensions.

Deadline: ASAP, but try to contact us before X-mas, even if its just a quick email that you are interested in the project.

Also, if you are interested in HOSTING a suitcase for a few days, email us too.

SUITCASE ART GALLERIES is an initiative by DDJV Art Projects, a Hamilton-based artistic duo who consist simply of Douglas Drake and Jessica Vellenga.
