Creatures From El


The first creatures from El, fashioned and sold in late 2005, were constructed exclusively of fired ceramic. To handle an ever greater need to be shipment safe, and non-toxic (for intense working hours), this sculptural repertoire has expanded to include polymer clay, home-made 'foam clay', and other mediums all worked by hand in their raw state. A slave to perfection Ellen is constantly evolving her creatures not only in form but also in character, with each specific knowledge gained a new corridor for exploration opened. As she pushes the evolution of her creatures they depart in ever greater strides from the ordinary creating a unique marriage of original media use and complex aesthetic. In creating each creature Ellen is working towards a level of high craftsmanship and detail, seeking to create narratives which can be extracted by the viewer over time.
