The Artist

Ellen was born in Markham Ontario and raised among mildew and snails. She took to shaping three dimensional forms naturally at a young age. Perhaps because sculpture has always been the air she breathed Ellen generally chooses to outsource her ideas, looking to the knowledge and natural phenomena that inspires her, rather than focus on trends within the art world. To Ellen sculpting has always been about life and ideas - a biological narrative, a cultural statement - with the mechanisms of creation and tedious hours of labor always being the mysterious foundation from which they spring forth.

In 2007 Ellen completed her post secondary education with a degree in Biological Anthropology and Art Critique from McMaster University. She had already started Creatures from El in her teens and despite its hard earned lessons and long hours, producing and selling sculptures was always her soul freeing alternative student work and helped her through her education. Creatures from El was thus in full swing by the time Ellen graduated.
