The first documented online concert was performed by an actual band: an underground grunge band by the name of Sky Cries Mary (SCM). SCM was an upcoming indie band of the time that had always been very vocal in their interest in exploring the possible uses of internet multimedia as a means to share their music with more people and therefore were a perfect candidate to be part of the first online video and sound broadcast. This multicast broadcast was accessed by up to 10 million college students, and 25 million internet users worldwide, even though "by all accounts, the concert broadcast wasn't much to look at. The picture was plopped in a cracker-sized corner of the PC screen, the image was jumpy, and the sound was on par with a long-distance phone call" (Daly).
