The Concert - Part 2
The concert was broadcast to the participating computers using a multiuser internet connection innovation called Multicast Backbone, or M-Bone, which was one of the first online multicasting tools. Even though the video quality was primitive compared to its modern-day versions, "it had the same rough-edged embryonic glory as when Alexander Graham Bell called for his assistant Dr. Watson over the first crude telephone" (Daly).
The event was coordinated and promoted by the Internet Underground Music Archive (IUMA), a music organization committed to supporting unsigned bands and promoting them free of charge. With their bold commitment to getting bands seen and heard by any means possible, it is unsurprising that the IUMA was involved in this sort of revolutionary project.
